IPICS 2012 - 1-5 October 2012 - Presqu'île de Giens France

International Partnerships in Ice Core Sciences

The first Open Science Conference of the International Partnerships in Ice Core Sciences (IPICS) will be held from 1-5 October 2012 at the beautiful setting of the Belembra club, situated on the border of the Mediterranean Sea in one of the best spots of the French Côte d’Azur. IPICS is an international programme under the umbrellas of IGBP/PAGES (Past Global Changes), SCAR (Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research) and IACS (International Association of Cryospheric Sciences). Gathering 25 nations, it aims at coordinating international collaboration for ice core research of the next several decades. The objective of the conference is to present, discuss and put in perspective the most recent results coming of past and current ice core drilling projects (deep drillings such as EPICA, WAIS, NEEM, TALDICE,… but also shallow drillings) in Antarctica and Greenland. Other ice core drilling projects conducted in non-polar glaciers or in other Arctic sites are also welcome. The four IPICS white papers will structure the conference programme. Gathering mostly ice core scientists, the conference expects to also attract researchers working on other paleoclimate archives as well as paleoclimate modelers and glaciologists. The conference format will favor informal discussions and networking, with an expected attendance of about 250 participants. Plenary lectures will alternate with poster sessions. The comfortable and isolated setting of the Belembra Club will favor friendly exchanges, and notably the contacts between senior/junior scientists and PhD students/postdocs. A special issue in a scientific journal should accompany the conference event and provide you with an opportunity for publishing your science in an important journal for the ice core community.

SASP 2012 - 22 au 27 Janvier 2012 - Alpe d'Huez

Des chercheurs de l’IPAG (Institut d’Astrophysique et de Planétologie de Grenoble) organisent, avec l’aide de deux autres scientifiques français, le symposium européen multi- et inter-disciplinaire « XVIIIth Symposium on Atomic, Cluster and Surface Physics 2012 » appelé « SASP 2012 », au Palais des Congrès de l’Alpe d’Huez du 22 au 27 janvier 2012.

Ce symposium européen existe depuis 34 ans et a lieu tous les deux ans dans les Alpes, fin janvier ou début février. Il alterne entre une organisation par les fondateurs autrichiens de l’Université d’Innsbruck dans une station de ski près d’Innsbruck et une autre station de ski alpine hors Autriche. Il a eu lieu plusieurs fois en Suisse et en Italie et une seule fois en France, à Val d’Isère. C’est un colloque multidisciplinaire avec un nombre de participants limité (Max 120) pour favoriser les échanges entre chercheurs de diverses disciplines issues de la physique atomique, de la physique moléculaire et de la chimie physique, allant du fondamental aux applications dans différents domaines (astrophysique, biomolécules, fusion etc.). Il a toujours plusieurs thèmes et les organisateurs locaux peuvent donner un accent sur un de ceux-ci.

Pour 2012, l'accent sera mis sur les applications à l’astrophysique et à l’astrochimie, soit les thèmes suivants :
- Astrophysique et astrochimie
- Clusters, agrégats, aérosols, glaces
- Ions, collisions, dynamique, spectroscopie
- Science des surfaces, catalyse
- Energie : production, stockage
